My Writing Journey

The Story Behind the Stories

My journey as a writer started on the shores of Virginia Beach, where my father put a fishing rod in my hands at just three years old.
From that day forward, we cast for croakers and spot in the surf, and my mother would fry up the catch for dinner. At the time, I was sure it was the best meal I’d ever had.
A couple of summers later, my dad pushed me into my first wave on a surfboard. It took most of that July to find my footing, but I can still picture that first ride all the way to shore.
I’ve been a waterman ever since.
Over time, those experiences turned into something more than memories. They became stories.
From Catch a Florida Keys Grand Slam to the Virginia Beach Guide Series, my books are built on the people, places, and moments that shaped my life on the water.
Along the way, I paired a background in photography with a career in communications, but storytelling has always been the thread that ties it all together.

Today, my work centers on outdoor storytelling, with a focus on marine conservation and recreational fisheries.
Whether I’m writing a book, a feature article, or working with a brand, the goal remains the same: Tell stories that are real, connect with people, and stay with them. I’ve spent a lifetime chasing those stories.
At first, they were written in salt spray and sunrises. Later, they took shape through conversations with guides, conservationists, and business owners who share a deep connection to the water.
That same pursuit, finding the heart of a story and bringing it to life, continues to shape my work today.
Because the best stories don’t just inform. They stay with you.
