My Writing Journey

The Story Behind the Stories

My journey as a writer started on the shores of Virginia Beach, VA, where my father put a fishing rod in my hands at just three years old. We’d cast for croakers and spot from the surf, using bloodworms and bottom rigs, and my mother would fry up our catch for dinner. Paired with hush puppies and Southern coleslaw, I remember thinking it was the best meal ever.

The summer I turned five, my dad pushed me into my first wave on a surfboard. It took me the better part of that hot, steamy July before I finally stood up, but I will never forget the thrill of riding my first wave all the way to the beach. I have been an avid waterman ever since.

Over the years, I’ve traveled extensively, fishing and surfing from the Caribbean to the South Pacific. Along the way, I combined my degree in photography with my passion for writing, setting the foundation for my copywriting career. My experience spans everything from corporate communications scripts and C-level speeches to public relations newsletters and trade show presentations.

Today, my focus is on outdoor storytelling, with a deep emphasis on marine conservation and recreational fisheries management. Whether crafting compelling articles, writing for conservation organizations, or helping outdoor brands connect with their audience, my goal remains the same—to tell stories that inform, inspire, and make an impact.

I’ve spent my life chasing stories. First, they were written in salt spray and sunrises, measured in the weight of a fish at the end of the line or the thrill of a wave well ridden. Later, I found them in conversations with those who make their living on the water—guides, conservationists, and business owners who all have tales worth telling.

That same passion for adventure, for finding the heart of a story and bringing it to life, is what drives my writing today. Whether it’s capturing the essence of a fishing lodge, showcasing an outdoor brand, or advocating for the conservation of the waters that shaped me, I craft words that connect.

The best stories don’t just inform—they inspire, persuade, and endure. Let’s tell yours.
